The Boeing Company Charitable Trust Awards $13,000 Grant to Goodwill
Maple Shade, NJ - (December 9, 2009) - Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey & Philadelphia was recently awarded a $13,185 grant from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust. Specifically, the grant monies will be used to purchase necessary supplies and equipment that will enable Goodwill to begin selling gently-used donated books online.
Goodwill’s E-Books is a new business line that will be operated by participants in Goodwill’s Ex-Offender Re-entry Program as a means of preparing them for competitive employment in the community. Gently-used books donated to Goodwill will be scanned and categorized by participants and then sold online. Beyond building a resume, all participants will be paid for their work. E-Books is yet another way that Goodwill fulfills its charitable mission of putting people to work while simultaneously contributing to America’s recycling efforts.
This grant was made possible by Boeing’s Global Corporate Citizenship function, which promotes the development of vibrant communities with citizens who are educated, creative, civic minded, environmentally conscious, healthy and economically self-sustained.
“We are thankful to The Boeing Company Charitable Trust for their investment in Goodwill,” said Goodwill President & CEO Mark B. Boyd. “Goodwill is an entrepreneurial-minded nonprofit. Through Goodwill’s E-Books Program, we are generating revenues to support our mission, employing individuals faced with barriers to employment, and effectively recycling books and putting them into the hands of people who want them.”
A nonprofit, community-based organization, Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey & Philadelphia’s mission is to put people with special needs to work. The mass collection and resale of donated goods in Goodwill’s 18 area retail stores fund high caliber job training programs and career services while simultaneously contributing to America’s recycling efforts.
