Virtua Memorial in Mount Holly opened its new Healing Garden on Sept. 17. The garden, located in the hospital’s central courtyard, provides a quiet, tranquil place for peaceful meditation for patients, visitors and staff.

The public was invited to visit the new garden during a grand opening from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 17.

Designed with three spirals to represent the three generations served by Virtua Memorial, senses are triggered by falling water, colorful flowers and fragrant foliage. Donations from Virtua Memorial’s Auxiliary Board, the Virtua Foundation, employees and physicians made the garden possible.

Virtua has distinguished itself as one of the first Six Sigma organizations in healthcare, as an early adopter of clinical and digital technologies, and for its innovative partnerships with nationally renowned organizations such as GE Healthcare, Fox Chase Cancer Center and A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.

It has been honored twice with the New Jersey Governor’s award for Clinical Excellence and recognized with the Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement by Voluntary Hospitals of America.

Virtua has been honored as the #1 Best Employer in the Delaware Valley by the Philadelphia Business Journal and is the recipient of the Consumer Choice Awards by National Research Corporation. For more information, visit our website at www.virtua.org or call 1-888-VIRTUA-3 (1-888-847-8823)

BEST TASTE OF SOUTH JERSEY EVER…

…was the comment heard over and over after the Chamber’s 15th annual affair at Adventure Aquarium on June 15th, 2009. Twenty-One restaurants served outstanding food with stunning presentation to over 600 ‘Tasters’ at Cherry Hill Regional Chamber’s Annual Showcase for area restaurants, hotels and caterers.

Chef Bobby Chez judged the competition. The judging was based on four categories: Creativity; Visual Appeal; Menu Variety; and Overall Presentation. “Best of Show” was awarded to Lourdes Health System for their amazing display of fruits and vegetables. Our 600+ ‘Tasters’ voted for their favorite restaurant. “Tasters’ Choice” was awarded to blue2o seafood grill + bar, serving an awesome pan-seared scallop.

We owe our success to all the participating restaurants, hotels & caterers. They made the evening a wonderful experience with their excellent food and their warm and friendly attitudes.

Congressman Adler Votes to Support Small Business

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Bill will provide critical funding for innovative small business research and technology

Washington, D.C., July 8, 2009 - Congressman John Adler, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, today voted for bipartisan legislation that will help small businesses across New Jersey. The Enhancing Small Business Research and Innovation Act will spur new innovations and technology that will create jobs and help renew economic growth. The bipartisan bill passed by a vote of 386-41.

“In Burlington and Ocean Counties, small business owners are the driving force behind our economic recovery,” Congressman Adler said. “We can’t expect the Small Business Administration to adequately help small business, if we don’t keep up with technology and innovation. These critical upgrades will help save jobs and create new opportunities for New Jersey’s middle class families and small businesses.”

This bill will modernize the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, two initiatives that help steer federal Research & Development funding to small businesses.

Congressman Adler recently held small business forums in Burlington and Ocean Counties as part of a series of panel discussions that connect local business owners with state and federal government agencies, including the U.S. Small Business Administration, NJ Office of Economic Growth, NJ Economic Development Authority, and the Ocean County Planning Board Director. Small business owners asked questions and received assistance on how to weather the economic downturn.
