Cherry Hill, N.J. -  At a public meeting this past Thursday, the Camden County Board of Freeholders paid tribute to Lori Braunstein, executive director of Sustainable Cherry Hill (SCH). Braunstein was the recipient of a Community Service Award on March 19 for her dedication to the community and her leadership of one of the area’s most influential nonprofits.

Since helping to found Sustainable Cherry Hill as part of the municipality’s Green Action Plan in March 2008, Braunstein has presided over the organization’s growth into a 501(c)(3) that boasts nearly 700 community supporters and a board of more than 25 local and regional stakeholders.

“Lori Braunstein’s vision, energy, dedication to her community, and ability to bring together stakeholders from throughout the region has resulted in a noteworthy nonprofit organization unique to Camden County,” said Freeholder Jeffrey Nash. “Though only in existence for a year, Sustainable Cherry Hill has already had a tremendous impact on the township, educating residents on sustainability and rallying them around the mission to forge a sustainable future.”

From planning, organizing and hosting educational events throughout the year to holding a monthly “Green Drinks” environmental networking happy hour, Braunstein has striven to engage residents and offer everyone a way to participate in working toward what she considers a vital goal - creating a truly sustainable community.

“Lori has worked tirelessly to make a difference in Cherry Hill, and she is succeeding,” said Mayor Bernie Platt. “We have been actively going green at the municipal level, but it’s critical that our constituents buy into the concept and understand its importance as well. Through Sustainable Cherry Hill, Lori has significantly furthered that goal and put Cherry Hill on the map as a community leading South Jersey’s sustainability movement.”

The Camden County Board of Freeholders’ March 19 meeting was held at the Cherry Hill Public Library, 1100 Kings Hwy North, at 7 p.m. For more information, call the Camden County Freeholders office at (856) 225-5085. I’m happy to report due to the generosity of the management at SpaceMart Storage, the Rotary Club of Winslow Township officially has storage space for our Food Pantry. SpaceMart answered our “call for help” at yesterday’s meeting to obtain additional space for the expected increase of donated product coming in the next few weeks and months to come.By having this space our pantry will be able service more needy families in the Winslow Township area as well as distributing a quality food package for recipients.

This new partnership with SpaceMart will also allow access to a service truck, and a small meeting space at their Cross Keys location. We deeply appreciate SpaceMart’s support and providing all of these services to us at no cost to the club.

Attached is a picture of our new space. I encourage you to support SpaceMart in any of your new endeavors. Special thanks to Jim Kane, Manager of SpaceMart in Sicklerville for making all of this possible.
